   There are multiple ways of making money online but it takes time to build up the online business.

   Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate Marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business or a company rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliates marketing efforts through commissions on sales conversion.The Affiliate Marketing industry has four core players at its heart: the Merchant, the Network, the Publisher and the Consumer.
   Affiliate marketing overlaps with other Internet marketing methods to some degree, because affiliates often use regular advertising methods. Those methods include placing free ads, paid ads,search engine optimization, paid search engine marketing, e-mail marketing, and networking. Affiliate marketing can also use a website to drive traffic to another—is a form of online marketing, which is frequently overlooked by advertisers.

   Multi-level marketing :Some advertisers offer multi-tier programs that distribute commission into a hierarchical referral network of sign-ups of leads or partners. To understand it better, say a publisher "A" signs up to the program with an advertiser and gets rewarded for the promotion or sale conducted by a referred visitor. If publisher "A" attracts publishers "B" and "C" to sign up for the same program using his sign-up code, all future activities performed by publishers "B" and "C" will result in additional commission (at a lower rate) for publisher "A".This is an example of two-tier programs . Referral programs beyond two-tier rare multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing. Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing may have more requirements/qualifications to get paid a commission whereas affiliate programs do not. These are a good source of residual or passive income. The rewards are in proportion to the efforts and sometimes more than expected.

   Other methods of online income : Paid surveys, reading emails, submitting articles are direct method of getting payments. Blogging and publishing in social networking sites can also attract revenues if the blogs appear in search engines and have good content to drive traffic.

   I don’t want to discourage you but saying that I want to make serious money without spending any money looks like a newbie want to make million in one day. Try google adwords or affiliate marketing. But mind it there is no such thing "free" in this world.
